Vince Staples – Vince Staples (Album)

by YAGI1

Perhaps that’s part of his plan. In a genre usually obsessed with success and the status it brings, he’s claimed to be uninterested in either: “Don’t go diamond [sell 10m copies] and you’ll be fine,” he told an interviewer who asked about his ambitions early on in his career. “You’ll have a regular life.” The rapper has suggested the album is his most personal to date, hence the title; this time around, the interludes are provided not by his fellow rappers, but his mum, talking about her anger issues and an old friend, recounting the grim story of a party that Staples luckily declined to attend and which turned bloodily violent. In the past, his lyrics have hardly shied away from his troubled upbringing in North Long Beach, California, but here he seems consumed by it. “When I see my fans I’m too paranoid to shake their hands,” he says on Sundown Town, while Law of Averages offers a litany of distrust, born out of the disparity between the environment he grew up in and the one he now inhabits.

It was confirmed in Vince’s GQ interview with Desus Nice on April 15, 2021, that he would be releasing a self-titled LP in the summer of 2021. When I spoke with him in early March, Vince, now 27, seemed happier. Excited about the future. We met over Zoom for several conversations and ended up talking about everything: his new self-titled LP out this summer, the influence of Nipsey Hussle, and not fucking around when it comes to raccoons. The lead single for the LP, “Law of Averages,” was released on June 18, 2021.

Vince Staples is back with his first solo single since 2019’s “Hell Bound (Ad 01),” and it leads a forthcoming self-titled record from the rapper. “Law of Averages” is out now, and the rest of Vince Staples will follow on July 9 via Blacksmith/Motown. Watch the “Law of Averages”

The upcoming record is produced by Kenny Beats and marks the artist’s first full-length release since 2018’s FM!. Vince Staples will hear the artist explore both his upbringing in Long Beach and his own psyche while he “learns to cope with his yesterdays and strides toward new tomorrows, picking others up along the way.” In a statement, Staples shared, “It really gives much more information about me that wasn’t out there before. That’s why I went with that title. I feel like I’ve been trying to tell the same story. As you go on in life, your point of view changes. This is another take on myself that I might not have had before.”

Vince Staples followed up his post by sharing a new photo with the album’s release date as his caption, telling his fans that July 9 is the big day. In the mood to bless his followers with even more information about the project, the Norf representative came through with his ten-song tracklist, including no features. Vince Staples will be the first new project from Vince Staples since 2018’s FM!. Listen to “LAW OF AVERAGES” below and let us know if you’re excited about the new music. Other artists releasing albums next week include Snoh Aalegra, IDK, and more, including the Space Jam: A New Legacy soundtrack.

The announcement lands with the release of the lead single, “Law of Averages.” It arrives with an accompanying music video, directed by Kid. Studio, and is set in Staples’ area of. Long Beach. “The cinematic visual features imagery that embodies black joy and highlights the beauty within the fringes,” a statement reads. Vince Staples is a member of the hip hop trio Cutthroat Boyz alongside fellow Californian rappers Aston Matthews and Joey Fatts. Staples was once a close associate of Odd Future, in particular Mike G and Earl Sweatshirt.
