German club set their sights on 25-year-old Chelsea attacker

Borussia Dortmund have reportedly placed Timo Werner on their wishlist of potential candidates to replace the Norwegian ace Erling Haaland ahead of the summer transfer window with Real Madrid, Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool all touted with interest in Die Borussen star.

The club’s senior figure, Michael Zorc, and manager, Marco Rose, are increasingly resigned to losing Erling and Chelsea’s Werner is near the top of their shortlist to succeed the giant centre-forward, according to Sport Bild, in spite of his struggles at Stamford Bridge.

However, the report indicates that Timo would have to accept a significant pay-cut on his existing £17m-a-year salary if a transfer to the Westfalenstadion is to materialise.

He had a difficult debut campaign last term – scoring just six times in the Premier League – and Romelu Lukaku’s arrival from the Serie A champions Inter Milan has raised further questions surrounding his role under Thomas Tuchel.

The 25-year-old attacker is yet to open his account for the Blues this season was an unused substitute as Romelu fired the Blues to a 1-0 victory against Zenit Saint Petersburg on Tuesday evening.

Dortmund believe Timo could rediscover his confidence and form by bringing him back to the German top-flight. The Germany international hit 95 goals in 159 games across an outstanding four-year spell with RB Leipzig from 2016 to 2020.
