Bruno Fernandes has reportedly been “given the green light” by Manchester United to enter talks over a sensational Saudi Arabia transfer.
According to TeamTalk, the initial approach for Fernandes from Saudi Arabia came in November 2023. Over the past few months, the Public Investment Fund (PIF) and Saudi football authorities have become increasingly assertive in their pursuit.
Al Nassr and Al Ittihad are the two main clubs vying for Fernandes’ signature. Both clubs have already outlined their visions, potential roles for Fernandes, and future plans in detailed meetings with the player and now that the Red Devils have given the go-ahead to Fernandes to thrash out personal terms with the PIF, a move could be in the offing this summer.
Fernandes has allegedly shown a preference for Al Nassr, largely due to the opportunity to reunite with his compatriot Cristiano Ronaldo. The relationship between Fernandes and Ronaldo, which has seen ups and downs, is reportedly on the mend, making the prospect of playing together again highly appealing. This factor positions Al Nassr as the frontrunner in the race to secure Fernandes’ services.
While Fernandes has expressed interest in the move, finalising a deal with United remains a challenge. United are not inclined to let go of their star midfielder easily. However, the Saudis are preparing an offer that could be hard for United to refuse. And now that Portugal are out of Euro 2024, both Al Nassr and Al Ittihad are expected to make a definitive push to secure the player’s agreement.
