Cristiano Ronaldo finally fires a blank!

Cristiano Ronaldo failed to score in the group stage of a major international tournament for the first time in his career at Euro 2024.

Ronaldo’s only direct goal involvement in the first three games of the competition in Germany came in the form of an assist for Bruno Fernandes during the Selecao’s 3-0 win against Turkey in their second match. He was not able to find the net in any of their Group F matches, including in the 2-0 defeat to minnows Georgia on Wednesday night, in which he was booked for dissent.

Euro 2024 is Ronaldo’s 10th major international tournament with Portugal and he has managed to find the net at least once in each group stage until now. The 39-year-old has also failed to score a non-penalty goal in his last 10 appearances at international tournaments.

Despite his struggles in front of goal, the Al-Nassr forward has managed to make history at Euro 2024. By starting the game against Georgia on Wednesday, he became the first European player to make 50 appearances at major international tournament finals. It was also his 210th appearance for Portugal.

The ex-Real Madrid and Manchester United star will hope to put an end to his dry spell when Portugal continue their campaign at the round of 16 stage. They will face Slovenia in Frankfurt in their first knockout match.
