Barcelona are in the quest to reinforce the left-back spot. For years, Jordi Alba has been uncontested in the position. While this, in theory, would open up the door for complacency, the Spaniard has been incredible for the Blaugrana.
This season is his single most productive campaign for the garnet and blue, with 12 goal contributions in the Spanish top flight.
One player so far rumoured to replace him or offer some competition has been Marcos Alonso. However, he is seemingly not a priority for Barça.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are still interested in Sergio Reguilon of Tottenham Hotspur. He is on the Catalans’ list for possible options to reinforce the left-back spot.
His agent, Kia Joorbachian, has an excellent relationship with the garnet and blue. Barcelona are also rumoured to offer a handful of players to help lower the price. The names of said players are yet to be mentioned by MD.
Joorbachian is Philippe Coutinho’s agent, and thanks to him, Barça were able to sell him to Aston Villa for €20 million. The Blaugrana can take advantage of this and player swaps to acquire the ex-Madrid player, whose contract ends in 2025.
Reguilon has performed well for Tottenham this season, amassing two goals and five assists for the North Londoners. His spot in the team has, however, been strongly contested by Ryan Sessegnon, who was excellent vs Arsenal on Thursday.
This tally is far from Alba’s two goals and ten assists, but as Alba himself had two and four respectively in La Liga just three seasons ago, there is always room for improvement.
If this deal does not go through, Barça have their eyes set on Javi Galan, Alejandro Grimaldo, Alonso and Jose Gaya.
