Barcelona have received a boost in their pursuit of Robert Lewandowski after reports emerged that the striker had informed Bayern Munich that he will not be signing a new contract with the club.
The 33-year-old will enter the final year of his contract with Die Roten this summer and has his heart set on an exit in the summer as he seeks a new challenge in his career.
Bayern Munich, on the other hand, are reluctant to lose their legendary goalscorer and had been hoping to convince him to sign a new deal. There had been speculations that the German champions could be open to losing him for free next year if he does not sign an extension.
However, according to Sport 1, the Bavarian giants are now rethinking their stance and will consider selling Lewandowski in the summer if he stands firm on his insistence of not wanting to sign a new contract.
The report claims that the Poland international is desperate to try a new challenge in his career, having spent the last 12 years of his career in Germany.
Furthermore, he has been left disappointed by the way Bayern have treated his contract situation, while the German giants’ pursuit of the Manchester City-bound Erling Haaland has also left him disgruntled
So, Lewandowski has made up his mind to leave Bayern, preferably this summer. And the report further adds that the former Borussia Dortmund striker is intent on signing for Barcelona in the summer.
It is claimed that the Poland captain has no other options or Plan B in place and is firm on his desire of wanting to play for the Catalan giants next season. This will certainly come as music to the ears of the Blaugrana, who were being rivalled by PSG in pursuit of the ace goalscorer.
Barcelona are planning to make a formal approach for Bayern Munich and Lewandowski imminently. With the Bundesliga Golden Boot winner keen on moving to Camp Nou and unwilling to sign a new deal, Bayern will have very little choice but to cash in on him this summer.
